At the Nature Investment Lab, we believe that solutions for global challenges like climate change, biodiversity loss, and sustainable development lie in innovative investments that nurture and protect our natural ecosystems. Our mission is to bridge the gap between financial investments and nature conservation by fostering collaboration, innovation, and actionable projects. We empower stakeholders—investors, policymakers, communities, and innovators—to contribute to the transition toward a more sustainable and resilient future.

Over the next three years

Objectives and goals for COP 30

Over the next three years, the Lab will bring together policymakers, private companies, financial institutions, philanthropic entities, and international organizations to achieve the following outcomes, with completion expected by COP 30:

Develop regulatory and policy recommendations and improvements.

Foster interaction and collaboration among different NbS stakeholders to create innovative financial instruments, pilot pioneering NbS transactions, and further refine project structuring tools.

Identify and discuss appropriate, replicable business models, improvements to reduce transaction costs, document and project templates, and evaluate the impacts of NbS projects in Brazil.

The Lab structure

Task forces

To enable the advancement of Nature-Based Solutions projects, the Nature Investment Lab operates through three multidisciplinary taskforces: Policy and Regulation, Innovative Transactions, and Transaction Costs and Impacts. These groups identify regulatory barriers, assist in structuring plans, and propose financing alternatives and methods for measuring impacts.

BRB FC

Launched in November 2024, the Brazil Restoration & Bioeconomy Finance Coalition (BRB FC) is a group of 19 public and private institutions dedicated to mobilizing financial resources for the restoration of Brazil’s forests and the promotion of the bioeconomy. The coalition aims to allocate US$10 billion to related projects by 2030, supporting the recovery of 5 million hectares during this period.
