Ojidos is a specialist in sustainability and green business and the author of the book <em>\u201cConservation in Continuous Cycle,\u201d<\/em> which presents approaches for generating resources through nature and ensuring the financial sustainability of RPPNs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">The brief highlights the main challenges faced by RPPNs and proposes measures to expand financial incentives that can ensure their long-term sustainability. The RPPN is a legal instrument that designates a private property as a conservation unit\u2014thus representing a relevant model for scaling up <strong>Nature-based Solutions (NbS)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-left\"><strong>Key points of the document include:<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>RPPNs are <strong>perpetual<\/strong> and created <strong>voluntarily<\/strong> by private landowners.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Brazil currently has <strong>1,902 RPPNs<\/strong>, protecting <strong>837,000 hectares<\/strong> across all biomes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Despite their importance, <strong>incentives remain insufficient<\/strong>: restrictions outweigh benefits, discouraging new owners from creating RPPNs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>RPPNs contribute directly to <strong>carbon sequestration<\/strong> (900,000 tCO\u2082e\/year), <strong>ecological corridor formation<\/strong>, and <strong>support for sustainable agribusiness<\/strong>, reducing climate and water risks.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>To increase both the number and effectiveness of RPPNs, the specialist makes several recommendations:<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Strengthen climate finance<\/strong>, through the creation of specific credit lines for RPPNs, authorization for <strong>carbon credit generation<\/strong> within the <strong>Brazilian Emissions Trading System (SBCE)<\/strong>, and implementation of <strong>Payments for Environmental Services (PES)<\/strong> schemes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Expand fiscal and legal incentives<\/strong>, advancing the bill that provides full exemption from the <strong>Rural Land Tax (ITR)<\/strong> and income tax deductions, while also granting RPPN owners access to <strong>social security and credit benefits<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Improve governance and data<\/strong>, by including dedicated RPPN fields in the <strong>Rural Environmental Registry (CAR)<\/strong> and the <strong>National System of Conservation Units (CNUC)<\/strong>, and by encouraging <strong>grouped projects<\/strong> to reduce costs and increase scale.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The upcoming <strong>COP30 in Bel\u00e9m<\/strong> represents an excellent opportunity to strengthen the recognition of RPPNs within the climate agenda and attract international financing. In this context, the <strong>Nature Investment Lab (NIL)<\/strong> can play an effective role by leading coordination efforts among government, the financial sector, and rural landowners, and by
